The games are a youth sport and cultural exchange for the young people of the Lancaster district, with some of the Lancaster twin towns from across Europe. After being cancelled during the Pandemic they were back in 2023 (despite the horrid weather). The games are organised by a group of volunteers from local sports groups and this is just the sort of grant funding the 3R Foundation is more than happy to help with!
The organisers said: Thank you so much, it really did make a big difference to those involved in the Games this year, compared to last time in Lancaster (without any welcome pack for guests)
Scout Leader Sian James explained that they are a large Scout troop based in Torrisholme, Morecambe with over 150 young people aged 4-18 coming through the doors each week. Scouting exists to actively engage and support young people in their personal development, empowering them to make a positive contribution to society, teaching skills for life and providing adventure! Stand Up Paddle Boarding promotes balance, increases arm, leg and core strength, and improves endurance, as well as building confidence in children. Spending time in the outdoors, especially in the calming environment of the lakes and rivers will also benefit their mental health. The paddle board is a large one that can take 8 Scouts, so there will be a lot of team work involved to steer the craft, and plenty of fun to be had too!
This grant was used to purchase new ladies softball cricket bat sets. The ladies team had been training for two years but were having to use the juniors equipment, which was obviously too small for them. So as they have now decided to enter into a competitive league they needed equipment that was the correct size. We were delighted to be able to fund this for them!
