Yealand Outdoor Games Area (YOGA)
The 3R Foundation recently awarded £1,000 to Yealand Outdoor Games Area (YOGA), led by Yealands Parish Council, to support the resurfacing of the community playground.
The Yealands Parish Council has been coordinating a fundraising campaign to refurbish the YOGA, which was installed over 20 years ago. Over time, the surface has significantly degraded and has been deemed unsafe for children to use by the local primary school. The project is being delivered in partnership with Yealand Village Hall (a registered charity) and the Church of England Primary School, ensuring the upgraded facility meets the needs of the whole community.
The works included thoroughly cleaning the existing area and resurfacing it with suitable tarmac. Once complete, the space will be re-marked with new games lines to support a wide range of activities, including football, tennis and pickleball. If the overall fundraising target of £20,000 is achieved, the project will also allow for the purchase of new sports equipment to further enhance use of the area.
The Yealand Outdoor Games Area is open to all members of the community, with a sole-use booking system managed by the Village Hall bookings clerk. Once refurbished, the space would provide a safe, accessible and versatile outdoor facility, encouraging children, families and residents of all ages to be active, social and engaged.
If you know of a local charity, club or community group looking for funding for a project or equipment, the 3R Foundation may be able to help.
