West End Impact
Back in August last year the 3R Foundation awarded £319 to West End Impact for a chest freezer to support its foodbank and community kitchen in Morecambe’s West End.
West End Impact is a community charity based in the heart of the West End, providing vital support to people facing crisis, poverty and isolation. Its work includes a foodbank, free meals, advice and guidance, access to a nurse and counsellors, wellbeing and CBT groups, creative activities, and a community garden project. The charity also runs two social enterprises specialising in retail, art and furniture restoration, helping people build skills, confidence and pathways forward.
The grant enabled the purchase of a large chest freezer, which is essential for safely storing surplus food with a short shelf life. West End Impact regularly receives donated food that would otherwise go to waste; freezing these items allows them to be preserved and used to prepare meals for the community. The frozen food supports weekly free meals, including the Thursday hot sit-in and takeaway service, as well as bread and fillings for Sunday sandwich provision.
By increasing storage capacity, the freezer helps reduce food waste, ensures food safety, and enables West End Impact to continue providing regular, nourishing meals to people who need them most.
If you know of a local charity, club or community group looking for funding for a project or equipment, the 3R Foundation may be able to help.
