The Heron Theatre

The 3R Foundation recently awarded £300 to The Heron Theatre for the installation of energy-efficient LED lighting.

Located in Beetham near Milnthorpe, The Heron Theatre is a 78-seat community theatre that offers a varied programme of live theatre, music and film for local audiences. Run entirely by volunteers, the registered charity also supports local groups by providing a venue for community events, drama productions, a monthly writing group and activities for nearby Beetham Primary School. The theatre also showcases the work of local artists in its foyer, helping promote creativity within the community.

The grant allowed the theatre's ageing fluorescent lighting to be replaced with modern LED lighting in the auditorium and backstage areas. The upgrade has improved lighting quality for performers, volunteers and audiences while significantly reducing energy consumption and ongoing maintenance costs.

Although the theatre also needed to complete a statutory Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR), the 3R Foundation's grant specifically supported the installation of the new LED lighting, helping create a safer, more sustainable and energy-efficient venue for the thousands of people who use and visit the theatre each year.

By reducing running costs, the project will also help the volunteer-run charity direct more of its resources towards delivering high-quality performances and community activities in the future.

The 3R Foundation funds grants like this through the Recycle, Reuse, Rehome charity shop in Carnforth (next to Tesco).
