Silverdale District Woodbank

The 3R Foundation has awarded £588 to Silverdale District Woodbank to purchase five wood saws and four pruning shears.
Silverdale District Woodbank is a volunteer-led community group that carries out practical woodland management work to support and enhance local wildlife habitats. The group collaborates with a number of conservation organisations including Arnside and Silverdale National Landscape (formerly AONB), Woodland Trust, Butterfly Conservation, National Trust, RSPB, as well as local scout and guide groups.

Members work co-operatively, and in return for their time and effort, they receive a share of logs and coppice poles for their own use. The group enables people of all abilities to get involved in practical conservation and community woodland work.
The grant will allow the group to replace their old and well-used tools, which have been in service for over seven years and are now at the end of their life. With spare parts no longer available for the existing pruners and the bow saws becoming less effective, the new Silky saws and pruning shears will make their work safer, more efficient, and more inclusive for volunteers.
