Rewilding Roots CIO
The 3R Foundation recently awarded £500 to Rewilding Roots CIO for seed potatoes, potato grow bags and compost for schools.
Rewilding Roots works to reconnect young people with nature by helping schools and communities create green spaces and learn how to grow their own food. Through hands-on activities, they inspire children to care for the environment, understand food systems and build a lifelong interest in gardening.
A key part of their work is the Potato Fairy Competition, which they have run for the past four years. Schools across North Lancashire and South Cumbria take part by growing potatoes and competing in fun categories such as the heaviest potato, largest crop and highest yield.
The grant funded 28 grow bags and compost, helping new classes take part in the competition and expanding the project to reach even more schools. This builds on previous years, where dozens of schools have already been involved.
By giving young people the tools to grow their own food, the project helps develop practical skills, encourages healthy habits and raises awareness of sustainability and food production.
The 3R Foundation funds grants like this through the Recycle, Reuse, Rehome charity shop in Carnforth (next to Tesco). With a large number of grant applications coming in recently, continued support from the local community is more important than ever.
Every purchase in the shop helps raise the funds that go straight back out as grants to support local charities, clubs and community groups. If you are nearby, please call in and support the shop so we can continue helping even more organisations across our area.
