The 3R Foundation recently awarded £250 to the Recycling Lives Charity for 8x mobile phones.

Recycling Lives is a UK-based charity and social enterprise, it works actively in our local area and operates a regional base in Preston. The organisation has been awarded a 3R grant to support its Release Potential programme – a specialist service that helps individuals leaving prison to rebuild their lives.

Recycling Lives combines commercial recycling and waste management with social impact programmes that support people facing complex challenges such as homelessness, unemployment, or a history of offending. The Release Potential team provides tailored support that begins before release and continues into the community, helping people secure stable housing, meaningful work, and access to vital services.

The 3R grant will fund mobile phones for individuals at the point of release. Many leave prison without access to a phone—an essential tool for contacting probation officers, applying for jobs, staying in touch with housing providers, managing Universal Credit claims and accessing healthcare. Without one, the risk of isolation and reoffending increases dramatically.

Providing a phone immediately upon release helps individuals stay connected, make appointments, apply for work and engage with support services. This practical intervention empowers people to take control, build independence and work towards a more stable future.

If you know of a local charity, club or community groups looking for funding for a project or a vital piece of equipment, the 3R Foundation may be able to help.

We offer small grants to support projects across Lancaster, Morecambe, North Lancs and South Lakes, and applying is quick and easy here:
