Morecambe Girls Football Club

The 3R Foundation recently awarded £560 to Morecambe Girls Football Club for three starter packs for their new teams, each including a set of footballs, a set of bibs, cones and a first aid bag.

Morecambe Girls FC offers football opportunities for girls of all abilities, providing a safe, welcoming and fun environment where players can develop skills, confidence and teamwork. The club currently runs 15 girls-only teams, supported by over 45 dedicated volunteers who ensure the girls can train and play week in, week out. A weekly development session also gives new players the chance to try football in a supportive setting.

The club has been running its girls’ section for seven years, alongside a women’s section established over 21 years ago. In addition to supporting players, the club encourages pathways into coaching, refereeing and administration. It is especially rewarding to see former players now returning as young coaches and referees, giving back to the next generation.

Committed to keeping football affordable and accessible, the club keeps fees as low as possible so that cost is never a barrier to participation. As a fully volunteer-led organisation, they rely heavily on sponsorship and donations when new equipment is needed.

With demand continuing to grow, the club is launching three new girls’ teams and refused to turn away any girls wanting to play. The 3R Foundation grant ensured each new team has a complete starter pack, enabling them to begin training safely and confidently from day one.
