Lonsdale Scout Activity Centres

The 3R Foundation recently awarded £623 to Lonsdale Scout Activity Centres – Silverhelme Campsite for cordless tool batteries, a circular saw and a post knocker.

Lonsdale Scouts operates two activity centres in the Lancaster and Morecambe area: Silverhelme Campsite in Silverdale and Littledale near Caton. Managed by a dedicated team of volunteers, the campsites provide young people with opportunities to get outdoors, learn new skills, build confidence and enjoy adventures away from home.

In 2025 alone, the two sites welcomed more than 6,500 visitors from 229 youth groups, making them an important resource for Scouts and other organisations across the region. The campsites are funded entirely through site bookings and rely on volunteers to carry out ongoing maintenance and improvements.

The grant funded two high-capacity cordless tool batteries, a circular saw and a post knocker, giving the volunteer team the specialist equipment needed to tackle essential maintenance projects.

The equipment is being used to help repair accommodation buildings, replace damaged flooring, maintain fencing around the site, including sections bordering a cliff edge, and support vital tree safety work. While based at Silverhelme, the tools will also be available for use at Littledale when required.

By investing in durable equipment rather than relying on volunteers' personal tools, the grant will help keep both campsites safe, well maintained and ready to welcome thousands more young people for years to come.

The 3R Foundation funds grants like this through the Recycle, Reuse, Rehome charity shop in Carnforth (next to Tesco).
