Lancaster Tennis Club

The 3R Foundation recently awarded £370 to Lancaster Tennis Club for a Club Pickleball Starter Pack and 2 nets.
Lancaster Tennis Club, founded in 1830, is part of Lancaster Cricket and Sports Club on Lune Road, offering tennis, cricket, and bowls. The club has three floodlit astro turf courts, a mini tennis/pickleball court, a practice area, a small clubhouse, and access to the LCSC pavilion.

Affiliated with the LTA and Pickleball England, the club runs adult and junior tennis programmes, social play, competitions, and league teams. In 2022, it became the first in North Lancashire to offer pickleball. With strong demand, including U3A sessions and a weekly indoor session at Salt Ayre Sports Centre, the club now has over 30 regular pickleball players and a waiting list.
The grant was used to purchase two additional Pickleball nets to complete the equipment set for Tuesday evening sessions at Salt Ayre Sports Centre. Prior to this, only two proper nets were available, and the remaining courts use modified badminton nets, which sag and interfere with play.
The grant also funded a Club Starter Pack (net, paddles, and balls) to support a new Thursday evening session at Lancaster Royal Grammar School that started in April. This allows the club to welcome new players and expand access to Pickleball.
If the 3R foundation could help with funds for a vital piece of equipment, then clubs and groups can apply for a grant using our simple form here:
