Lancaster and Morecambe Makers
The 3R Foundation recently awarded £170 to LAMM - Lancaster and Morecambe Makers to purchase a track saw for use at their makerspace.
Lancaster and Morecambe Makers provides the local community with access to shared space, tools and expertise to support a wide range of creative and practical projects. Facilities range from traditional craft equipment such as looms to modern digital tools including laser cutters. The group also supports home educators, helps children and young people access specialist learning opportunities, and delivers free activities in community venues including the Storey Institute, Lancaster Library and the Gregson.
The grant was used to purchase a track saw for the makerspace. While there is no space for a table saw – and such equipment can present safety risks if misused – a track saw allows members to make precise, long, straight cuts in sheet materials in a much safer and more flexible way. This will significantly expand the types of projects that can be undertaken by members.
In the longer term, the group hopes to develop a “library of things” and invest in higher-end equipment for lending. For now, this well-reviewed model offers excellent value for money and comes with a three-year guarantee, making it a practical and sustainable choice that will benefit many users.
If you know of a local charity, club or community group looking for funding for a project or equipment, the 3R Foundation may be able to help.
