Lancaster and Morecambe Makers

The 3R Foundation recently awarded £450 to Lancaster and Morecambe Makers for a 24" weaving loom and stand.
They run a makerspace - a community workshop - open to paying members as well as to the public during weekly open evenings. Their aim is to make craft and technology accessible to everyone, providing access to tools and equipment for woodwork, 3D printing, laser cutting, computing, and electronics, along with the skills needed to use them.

They also host a repair café during public open evenings and take part in various events throughout the year, such as Fun Palaces and Light Up Lancaster, offering STEM activities primarily for children. In addition, they refurbish donated laptops and supply them to community interest companies (CICs) and charities, including the NHS and organisations supporting refugees.
They wanted to greatly improve their support for traditional skills with a new 24" loom on a foldable stand. They had a portable 10" loom, on loan, and it has been very popular with members and public alike - it is always a big draw at events at the library! They have recently designed and laser cut micro looms to give away to people (only costing a couple of pounds each) to encourage weaving skills! Having a larger, 24" loom will allow for much larger, practical, fabric to be made than possible now (10" wide is only really useful for scarves).
If the 3R foundation could help with funds for a vital piece of equipment, then clubs and groups can apply for a grant using our simple form here:
