KEY (Kent Estuary Youth Project)

KEY (Kent Estuary Youth Project)

The 3R Foundation recently awarded £580 to KEY (Kent Estuary Youth Project) in Milnthorpe for a combined folding pool table, table tennis table and dart board set.

The Project works to help young people “unlock their potential” through creative learning, mentoring and community-based activities. Their youth-led approach ensures programmes are shaped by the needs and interests of the young people they support.

KEY works with a diverse group of young people, encouraging them to build confidence, develop life skills and take part in their local communities. Older members are supported to become volunteers and mentors, helping guide younger participants and strengthen community connections.

The grant supported their “Moving On Generation” group, which works with young people aged 17+ to prepare them for independent living and working life. Alongside practical skills like budgeting and cooking, the group also values time to relax and socialise.

The new multi-use games table has provided a fun and engaging way for young people to unwind, build friendships and enjoy their time together. Its foldable design makes it ideal for a group without a permanent space, allowing it to be easily stored and shared.

One of the organisers said: “I can’t tell you how much the table and its accessories are used and what delight they bring to our club and the junior club on Wednesdays. The older ones now get to the club half an hour earlier so they can set it up in plenty of time!”

The 3R Foundation funds grants like this through the Recycle, Reuse, Rehome charity shop in Carnforth (next to Tesco). With a large number of grant applications coming in recently, continued support from the local community is more important than ever.

Every purchase in the shop helps raise the funds that go straight back out as grants to support local charities, clubs and community groups. If you are nearby, please call in and support the shop so we can continue helping even more organisations across our area.
