Green Elephant Co-operative

The 3R Foundation recently awarded £968 to the Green Elephant Co-operative for two picnic benches at Halton Mill.

The Green Elephant Co-operative is a not-for-profit organisation that runs Halton Mill, a low-carbon workspace and community venue in the village of Halton. The Mill provides an inspiring environment where small businesses, artists, craftspeople, freelancers, social enterprises and community groups can work, collaborate and thrive, while promoting environmental sustainability and shared resources.

As part of an ongoing project to improve the outdoor space, the co-operative has been creating a more welcoming environment for tenants, visitors and the wider community. The riverside location is popular with walkers and also hosts regular community events, including visits from a local pizza van, making it a natural place for people to stop, meet and relax.

The grant funded two new picnic benches, providing attractive and durable seating that can be enjoyed throughout the year. The benches will be used by people attending workshops, retreat days, art classes and community events, while also offering a welcoming place to sit for visitors enjoying the riverside setting.

The improvements have helped create a more accessible and sociable outdoor space, encouraging greater use of Halton Mill by both the local community and the many organisations based there.

The 3R Foundation funds grants like this through the Recycle, Reuse, Rehome charity shop in Carnforth (next to Tesco).
