Greater Garstang Men’s Shed

The 3R Foundation recently awarded £387 to Greater Garstang Men’s Shed for a range of tools and equipment to support its growing programme of community projects.

Greater Garstang Men’s Shed is a relatively new community organisation providing a friendly and supportive environment where people can meet, work together on practical projects and enjoy the wellbeing benefits that come from friendship, shared skills and having a sense of purpose.

The Shed works with local organisations and community groups, using members’ practical skills to help with projects throughout the area. Recent work in Forton included completely sanding back and re-staining a community memorial bench, with the next project involving the refurbishment of the yellow doors at the UR Church. The group also received support with materials from Ronseal UK & Ireland.

As a recently established group, one of its priorities has been building up a good collection of quality tools so members can take on a wider range of projects.

The 3R grant funded new tools and equipment, helping the Shed expand its workshop facilities and tackle larger and more ambitious jobs.

And in a nice bit of 3R Reuse in action, we were also able to help with some extra equipment! A number of useful power tools donated to our charity shop, including an angle grinder, were passed directly on to the Men’s Shed, where we knew they could be put straight to work rather than being sold in the shop.

It’s a great example of how donations to 3R can support our community in more ways than one – through the grants we give and by Rehoming useful items directly with local organisations that can make the best use of them.

The 3R Foundation funds grants like this through the Recycle, Reuse, Rehome charity shop in Carnforth (next to Tesco).
