Friends of Happy Mount Park

The 3R Foundation recently awarded £218 to the Friends of Happy Mount Park for plants, fertiliser and compost.
This grant from the 3R Foundation has supported an ongoing project to enhance the rose garden in Happy Mount Park in Morecambe, led by a volunteer group formed in March 2023. The group works under the guidance of the council to improve specific areas of the park and has already transformed the sensory garden with support from the Lancashire Environmental Fund and landscape architect David Redmore.

In addition to their work on the sensory garden, the volunteers have taken on the long border in the Japanese Garden and have been clearing bindweed from the rose garden, a central space near the café, Crazy Golf and trampoline park. This area is a popular spot for visitors and one of the park’s main seating areas, making it a perfect location for further improvements.
The grant was used to plant 17 new roses to help rejuvenate the rose bed, including ten White Flower Carpet roses to form a low hedge, along with three Gertrude Jekyll and four Rosa Bonica varieties, chosen for their strong scent, disease resistance and vigorous growth. Fertiliser, compost, additional soil and mycorrhizal fungi were also included to give the plants the best start.
This project aims to restore and enhance a much-loved part of the park, bringing colour and joy to the thousands of people who visit each year.
If you know of a local charity, club or community group looking for funding for a project or a vital piece of equipment, the 3R Foundation may be able to help.
