Four Seasons Allotments Association
The 3R Foundation recently awarded £492 to the Four Seasons Allotments Association for a wheelchair-accessible picnic table.
Based in Heysham, Four Seasons Allotments Association is a community growing project providing full and half-size plots, along with communal growing beds, for a diverse range of local households. The group is committed to environmental stewardship, sharing knowledge around food growing and ensuring that gardening opportunities are accessible to everyone.
The association has worked to create an inclusive space where people of all abilities can take part, socialise and enjoy the benefits of outdoor activity and community growing.
The grant funded a wheelchair-accessible picnic table, along with groundwork preparation to ensure the area could be safely accessed. The table forms part of a wider communal seating area designed to encourage people to spend more time on site, build friendships and strengthen the sense of community within the allotments.
By improving accessibility, the project has helped ensure more people can fully enjoy the site and take part in activities regardless of physical ability or mobility needs.
The 3R Foundation funds grants like this through the Recycle, Reuse, Rehome charity shop in Carnforth (next to Tesco). With a large number of grant applications coming in recently, continued support from the local community is more important than ever.
Every purchase in the shop helps raise the funds that go straight back out as grants to support local charities, clubs and community groups. If you are nearby, please call in and support the shop so we can continue helping even more organisations across our area.
