Defying Dementia Fundraising Shop
The 3R Foundation recently awarded £720 to the Defying Dementia Fundraising Shop in Lancaster for branded hoodies, greeting card displays and information stands.
Defying Dementia raises funds to support research into Alzheimer’s and dementia, with all research taking place locally at Lancaster University. The charity has already funded two PhD students over the past three years, helping advance important work into therapeutic treatments.
Their fundraising is centred around their second-hand shop in the heart of Lancaster, where they sell clothes, books, bric-a-brac and small furniture. The shop is run by a dedicated team of volunteers who keep it well stocked and welcoming for customers.
The grant funded branded hoodies for volunteers, helping recognise their hard work while also providing a casual uniform that makes them easily identifiable in the shop. The hoodies also help raise awareness of the charity as volunteers travel to and from the shop.
In addition, the funding supported display stands to better organise information leaflets for members of the public affected by dementia, as well as a dedicated display for greeting cards. These improvements have helped create a more organised and accessible space for both customers and those seeking support.
The 3R Foundation funds grants like this through the Recycle, Reuse, Rehome charity shop in Carnforth (next to Tesco). With a large number of grant applications coming in recently, continued support from the local community is more important than ever.
Every purchase in the shop helps raise the funds that go straight back out as grants to support local charities, clubs and community groups. If you are nearby, please call in and support the shop so we can continue helping even more organisations across our area.
