Cumbria Ore Mines Rescue Unit - COMRU

The 3R Foundation recently awarded £1,131 to Cumbria Ore Mines Rescue Unit - COMRU for an urgently needed air brake compressor for one of their Unimog rescue vehicles.
Cumbria Ore Mines Rescue Unit provide underground and difficult access rescue across the whole of Cumbria and beyond. The team is part of the Lake District Search and Mountain Rescue Association and the British Cave Rescue Council.
One of the two Unimog vehicles used by the group required a replacement air brake compressor due to a mechanical failure. While the team includes a number of highly skilled volunteers who are able to carry out much of the servicing and repair work themselves, the cost of sourcing parts remains a challenge.

The group had obtained quotes for an aftermarket compressor, which offered a cost-effective solution, around one-third of the price of the original Bosch component, while still being entirely suitable for the vehicle’s current usage, which is significantly lighter than the military demands it once met.
A grant was requested to support the purchase of the necessary parts, enabling the team to get the vehicle back into operation and continue their work.
If you know of a local charity, club or community group looking for funding for a project or a vital piece of equipment, the 3R Foundation may be able to help.
