Cockerham Bowling Club

The 3R Foundation recently awarded £441 to Cockerham Bowling Club for a fridge and a drinks cooler for their club house.
Cockerham Bowling Club offers crown green bowling for all, promoting both physical and mental wellbeing. Post-COVID, the clubhouse was refurbished to improve amenities and ensure accessibility for disabled players and visitors. With support from members and local businesses, the club is also enhancing the surrounding landscape, creating a welcoming space for its 64 members, visitors, schoolchildren, and the wider community. The club has 9 teams competing in 6 leagues, including ladies and veterans teams. Local schoolchildren use the green as part of their PE curriculum, with trophies awarded to mark their achievements.
Following the clubhouse rebuild, Cockerham Bowling Club was fortunate to receive donated kitchen units, a cooker, and a fridge, which were reconfigured and upcycled to create catering facilities. However, the fridge had since broken, with the freezer compartment no longer functioning, making it unfit for purpose so needed to be repalced.
Last year, the club hosted its first corporate away day to thank a local business for their suppor - an initiative they hoped to repeat to help raise funds. Plans were also in place to hold more fun days, competitions, and social events, further encouraging community use alongside existing activities. A local craft group also now meets at the clubhouse, and the club hopes to host more community groups in the future.
