Cinderbarrow Miniature Railway LMMES

The 3R Foundation recently awarded £1000 to Cinderbarrow Miniature Railway for their footpath resurfacing project.

Cinderbarrow Miniature Railway, near Carnforth, is a well-loved attraction run by the Lancaster and Morecambe Model Engineering Society. The railway, popular with families and enthusiasts, runs around the Cinderbarrow Picnic Area and offers rides on miniature steam and diesel locomotives.

Surrounding the site is a footpath regularly used by a wide variety of visitors, including families with prams and people with walking aids. It also forms part of a longer walking route. However, the path had become worn over time, with trip hazards making access difficult and unsafe, particularly for those with mobility challenges.

To address this, the society recently completed a resurfacing project to improve safety and accessibility. The new surface makes the route smoother and more usable for prams, small bicycles, and those with limited mobility. The work also created new spaces for picnic tables, helping visitors enjoy the site more comfortably. These improvements support both the miniature railway and the wider community who use the area.
