CancerCare North Lancashire and South Cumbria

The 3R Foundation recently awarded £473 to CancerCare North Lancashire and South Cumbria for two wooden garden benches at its Slynedales Centre in Lancaster.

CancerCare is a local, independent charity supporting adults and children affected by cancer or bereavement across North Lancashire and South Cumbria, with centres in Lancaster, Morecambe, Kendal and Barrow.

The charity provides free counselling and professional therapies including massage, hypnotherapy and group support, helping people cope with the emotional and physical impact of cancer and bereavement. Its support also extends to families and carers.

The grant funded two new wooden garden benches, replacing older seating within the beautiful grounds of CancerCare's Slynedales Centre.

The gardens are an important part of the support offered at the centre. Clients regularly spend time outdoors before and after appointments, enjoying the peaceful surroundings, mature planting, developing orchard and local wildlife.

For some children, particularly those who find an indoor counselling session too intense, therapists can take sessions outside and walk through the grounds, providing a more relaxed environment in which to talk. The gardens also provide inspiration for CancerCare's art group.

The new benches have created comfortable places to sit, reflect and enjoy this special outdoor space, helping make the gardens even more welcoming for clients of all ages.

The 3R Foundation funds grants like this through the Recycle, Reuse, Rehome charity shop in Carnforth (next to Tesco).

Every purchase in the shop helps fund grants for local charities, clubs and community groups across North Lancashire and South Cumbria. Please support the shop so we can continue helping even more organisations in our area.
