Bowerham Lawn Tennis Club

The 3R Foundation recently awarded £399 to Bowerham Lawn Tennis Club for an electric cooker for their clubhouse to replace their old and unsafe cooker.

The club, a registered Community Amateur Sports Club, was established in 1921 and proudly celebrated its centenary in 2021. With four floodlit all-weather courts, resurfaced in 2017 with a carpet surface that is kinder on the joints, the club welcomes players of all ages and abilities – from as young as five through to members in their eighties. Their constitution sets out a clear aim: to foster and promote the sport of tennis at all levels and to all ages. In practice, this means offering a wide range of opportunities including social tennis, club nights, team competitions, tournaments, coaching, and a lively calendar of social events.

In recent years the club has invested heavily in upgrading its clubhouse, adding a new frontage, flooring, curtains, redecoration, and a new double-glazed kitchen window – the latter supported by a £500 grant from the 3R Foundation two years ago. These improvements have made the clubhouse a more welcoming space, not only for members but also for wider community use, including activities such as Pilates, Zumba, yoga, and local art and book groups.

The grant will now allow the club to replace their very old cooker, which had become unsafe with failing seals, rusty rings, and a faulty door. A new cooker will ensure the clubhouse kitchen remains fully functional, supporting both club and community events for years to come.

If you know of a local charity, club or community group looking for funding for a project or a vital piece of equipment, the 3R Foundation may be able to help.
