Bendrigg Trust
The 3R Foundation recently awarded £1,000 to Bendrigg Trust for 29 Petzl head torches and wheelchair torch mounts.
Based near Kendal, Bendrigg Trust is one of the few UK outdoor education centres supporting people with severe physical, sensory, and learning disabilities in activities such as canoeing, climbing, and caving. Over 3,000 disabled visitors and their families attend annually, benefiting from residential courses that improve confidence, independence, social skills, inclusion, and wellbeing. Adaptive equipment and specialist tutors help participants achieve more than they thought possible.
The grant funded new head torches for caving sessions and night walks, essential for low-light activities, especially for visitors with impaired vision. Wheelchair torch mounts were also purchased for those with limited head control, allowing safer, lighter helmets and greater comfort. The equipment replaced older torches with low battery life, ensuring immediate, widespread use.
Thanks to this support, Bendrigg Trust can continue providing life-changing outdoor experiences, helping disabled visitors enjoy adventure safely and confidently.
If you know of a local charity, club or community group looking for funding for a project or equipment, the 3R Foundation may be able to help.
