Ambleside Road Allotment Association

The 3R Foundation recently awarded £500 to Ambleside Road Allotment Association in Lancaster for 10 tons of gravel!
This community allotment, located in a disadvantaged area of Lancaster, includes 40 plots and 10 raised beds designed for individuals with health or mobility issues. Volunteers meet twice a week to maintain and improve the site, which is surrounded by fruit trees, bushes, and herbs available for all to use.

In addition to local residents, several plots are tended by individuals connected to Cancer Care, those living with cancer, bereaved, or supporting affected family membe, often with help from the volunteer work parties.
Access however has become increasingly difficult due to muddy, slippery paths, especially for elderly members, some in their 80s and 90s, and those with health challenges. Led by two senior volunteers (aged 84 and 90), the group began resolving the issue by laying donated membrane and filling it with gravel. However, the project had stalled due to a shortage of gravel. The grant from the 3R Foundation provided the group with another 10 tons of gravel to allow them to finish the communal sitting area and the various access paths.
