Alexander House Community Care Hub CIC
The 3R Foundation recently awarded £648 to Alexander House Community Care Hub CIC for a washing machine and tumble dryer.
Alexander House Community Care Hub is a not-for-profit organisation providing an inclusive, community-led space for residents in rural Cumbria who may otherwise experience isolation. The hub offers warm communal areas, social activities, community meals, information services and intergenerational programmes designed to strengthen wellbeing and create opportunities for local people to connect.
As the project develops into its next phase, the site now includes 11 community living accommodation units for people aged 55 and over. To support residents and the wider community, the hub required a washing machine and tumble dryer that will be free for tenants to use. The facilities will also be available to vulnerable local residents and carers who may not have access to their own washing machine or who struggle with the cost of running one at home.
To help keep the service sustainable, the building is equipped with a large solar roof array, which will generate renewable electricity to power the appliances and reduce ongoing running costs. This ensures the laundry facilities remain accessible to those who need them most while also supporting an environmentally responsible approach.
The 3R Foundation funds grants like this through the Recycle, Reuse, Rehome charity shop in Carnforth (next to Tesco). With a large number of grant applications coming in recently, continued support from the local community is more important than ever.
Every purchase in the shop helps raise the funds that go straight back out as grants to support local charities, clubs and community groups. If you are nearby, please call in and support the shop so we can continue helping even more organisations across our area.
