5th Lancaster Guides

The 3R Foundation recently awarded £487 to 5th Lancaster Guides for cooking equipment, a gazebo, folding tables and a water carrier.

5th Lancaster Guides provides weekly activities and adventures for around 45 girls aged 10 to 14, helping them develop confidence, leadership, teamwork and life skills in a safe and supportive environment. Run entirely by dedicated volunteers, the unit also organises regular residential camps and outdoor activities, giving girls the opportunity to experience adventure, challenge themselves and build lasting friendships.

Camping is a highlight of the Guides programme, encouraging girls to disconnect from technology and enjoy activities such as cooking over open fires, climbing, raft building and exploring the outdoors. These experiences help develop independence, resilience and a lifelong appreciation of nature.

The grant funded large cooking pots and pans, a gazebo, two folding tables and a water carrier, making camps easier to organise and allowing volunteers to prepare meals for the whole group more efficiently. The new equipment also means the Guides are no longer dependent on campsites providing essential facilities, giving them the freedom to visit a wider range of locations and offer even more adventurous experiences.

Importantly, the equipment will also be shared with other Guide units across the Lancaster district, helping even more girls benefit from outdoor adventures and residential camps.

The 3R Foundation funds grants like this through the Recycle, Reuse, Rehome charity shop in Carnforth (next to Tesco).
