1st Stalmine Scouts
The 3R Foundation recently awarded £498 to 1st Stalmine Scouts for a gas griddle, camping stoves and outdoor cooking equipment.
1st Stalmine Scout Group is part of the UK’s largest mixed youth movement, supporting 64 young people aged 6–14 each week. The group provides a welcoming, inclusive environment where children of all backgrounds and abilities can develop confidence, resilience and essential life skills through a wide range of activities.
Run by just five regular volunteers, the group delivers a varied, child-centred programme shaped by the young people themselves. Activities range from outdoor adventures to community volunteering, including beach cleans and visits to local care homes. The group works hard to keep costs low so that no child misses out, relying heavily on fundraising and volunteer support.
The grant funded essential outdoor cooking equipment, enabling the group to expand their camping offer and take young people to locations without kitchen facilities. Items such as camping stoves and cooking kits allow Scouts to prepare meals independently while on expeditions.
These experiences play a vital role in developing independence, teamwork and resilience, giving young people the chance to learn practical skills while enjoying the outdoors. The new equipment represents a long-term investment that will benefit all sections of the group for years to come.
The 3R Foundation funds grants like this through the Recycle, Reuse, Rehome charity shop in Carnforth (next to Tesco). With a large number of grant applications coming in recently, continued support from the local community is more important than ever.
Every purchase in the shop helps raise the funds that go straight back out as grants to support local charities, clubs and community groups. If you are nearby, please call in and support the shop so we can continue helping even more organisations across our area.
