1st Carnforth Scouts

The 3R Foundation recently awarded £500 to 1st Carnforth Scouts towards the purchase of a 10kWh solar battery, helping the group reduce its energy costs and become more environmentally sustainable.

1st Carnforth Scouts provides adventure, activities and valuable life skills to around 100 children and young people every week during term time, through its Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and Rangers sections.

From outdoor adventures and camping to teamwork, practical skills and community activities, the group provides opportunities for young people to develop confidence, independence and friendships.

The group had already secured funding to install solar panels and a hybrid inverter, which were fitted and generating electricity.

The next step was to add a 10kWh battery, allowing more of the electricity generated during daylight hours to be stored and used later, rather than having to purchase it from the grid.

The battery installation cost approximately £2,200, with 3R contributing £500 alongside funding sought from other local organisations and the Scouts' own funds.

The group estimated that adding battery storage could reduce its electricity bills by a further 30% each year, freeing up valuable funds to support activities and opportunities for its young members.

It's a great investment in the group's future, helping reduce running costs and environmental impact while supporting the next generation of local Scouts! 💜

The 3R Foundation funds grants like this through the Recycle, Reuse, Rehome charity shop in Carnforth (next to Tesco).

Every purchase in the shop helps fund grants for local charities, clubs and community groups across North Lancashire and South Cumbria. Please support the shop so we can continue helping even more organisations in our area.
