The 3R Foundation recently awarded £960 to Alhambra Live - The Morecambe Alhambra Theatre C.I.C. for new LED emergency lighting and a CCTV control unit.

The Morecambe Alhambra Theatre C.I.C. is a volunteer-run Community Interest Company that operates the historic Alhambra Theatre building as Alhambra Live, making an important contribution to Morecambe’s cultural life. Located on the Promenade in the West End, the theatre is an architectural and artistic landmark with more than a century of history. The organisation receives no core funding and relies on volunteers to maintain the building and keep it operational as an inclusive entertainment and events venue.

Many events held at the Alhambra raise money for charities, and venue hire is often offered free of charge. The current focus is as a grassroots music venue, with a flexible space that can host audiences ranging from 50 to 800 people, supporting both local artists and Morecambe’s wider economic and cultural revival.

The grant will be used to replace approximately 50 outdated emergency lights throughout the building. Replacement parts for the existing system are no longer available, making a full upgrade essential to remain compliant and safe. New LED units, while more costly initially, will provide a reliable, long-lasting solution. The funding will also cover the replacement of a CCTV control unit damaged during recent storms, ensuring the building continues to meet insurance and security requirements.

These one-off improvements will help safeguard the venue, reduce future maintenance costs and support the continued operation of this much-loved community asset.

If you know of a local charity, club or community group looking for funding for a project or equipment, the 3R Foundation may be able to help.
